Report of The Fourth A3 Roundtable Meeting on Asia Chemical Probe Research Hub

Joohyun Lee
Sungkyunkwan University – School of Medicine, Suwon, Korea

It was a great honor to have the opportunity to attend “The Fourth A3 Roundtable Meeting on Chemical Probe Research Hub” which was held from Nov. 18th to Nov. 21st in Sendai, Japan. I was very grateful for having the chance to discuss with the researchers from not only Korea but also Japan and China.
It was my first time to give an oral presentation at an international conference and was a memorable experience. The title of my presentation was “High resolution cryo-EM structure of the Methanocaldococcus jannaschii small-heat shock protein”. Even though the presentation was focused on the structural aspects, the audience thankfully gave attention to the methods and results. The questions were very insightful and the advices from the participants were helpful to complement my research. Furthermore, I enjoyed many presentations from well-known professors and promising students in various research fields.

In addition to the academical experience, I had great time meeting the students from Japan and China. I could see that the organizers planned the conference carefully for the participants to communicate with new people and enjoy Sendai. It was refreshing to have meals including famous food at Sendai and going on tours to the whisky distillery and Aobayama Park. I will not forget the moments that I tried Japanese food and beverages and saw the beautiful night view with Japanese and Chinese friends.
Finally, I would like to thank all the organizers and members of the meeting. I will cherish the relationships I made and experiences that I had thanks to this meeting.
